Read: Quintino Sella

Quintino Sella

no color membership but honesty intent to seek to be and represent.

As I tried on my usual market stall, old theater books for my son, I came across this book small but essential, as I have found , reading: Italy from 1870 to 1915 (Facts and Figures) Edizioni Radio Italian Alberto M. Ghisalberti.
I was impressed by some of the wording to read the news about Quintino Sella, I like to report, call for a comparison with today's reality:

<< As for me, I declare that I do not point to the popularity, for me, first of all, I think we need to do their duty and interest of the state. And then, if you want the public esteem, which of course every man wants, I am of the opinion that it is mostly that of people aspire to be sensible and reasonable. Even in terms of popularity, not the quantity but the quality that must occur in aims>>.

-L 'man who, thirty-five years, showed such a severe disdain for the popularity, which he clearly distinguished from the estimate, preceded by a sense of duty and the interest of the State, was one of the worthiest and the most significant representatives of the Old Right. "
Born in Moss in 1827 and died in 1884 in Biella , Quintino Sella was finance minister in the governments Rattazzi, La Marmora and Lanza. He served as president of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. It was the first to reach Italian mountaineer, in 1863, the peak of Monte Viso, and founded the same year the CAI (Italian Alpine Club). was university professor, a mining engineer, deputy, minister, secretary general (today we would say Secretary of State), Public Education, as Minister Francesco De Sanctis. His choices in fiscal policy, and not always shared by all, were aimed at him by good of the state, as he claimed.
-To those who remembered the hardness of the tax burden, replied in 1867: <<Yes, the Italian taxpayer has huge fees, but the Italian who work so hard to give themselves a homeland, have virtue enough to maintain a cost of the toughest sacrifices ...>>.

- We Italians owe gratitude for having defended Sella in the economic results of the Renaissance, but also because it was he who imposed in 1870, decisive action to conquest of Rome.
Man of Science, high culture and high moral conscience, Quintino Sella has left us a valuable lesson: << In the difficult circumstances of our lives will seem to be a difficult climb. A moment of cowardice, lack of foresight, he loses everything. The courage, foresight, perseverance, loyalty can make you win everything >>.

Know
travels extensively to meet for study and tried to understand the spirit of the other countries and the significance of the events of which he was witnessing. Never ceased to study, to reflect, to prepare for a better tomorrow, for << the search for truth and the profit of my country >>, as he said.

Considerations countrymen
<<Most of the Italians I have met so far in their presumption and ignorance (which are not often that one thing alone) accompanied mostly by the weakness of mind, that when I think I feel the flush mount to the face and the pain and anger to the heart>>.
